The various products
The Sigolénois extruders play a part in all areas of the plastic films market. Each year approx. 450 000 tonnes of low-, medium- and high-density polyethylene films are produced in association with other polymers (PP, PS, PA...) by means of multi-layer co-extrusion techniques.
The applications are many and various according to the various sectors :
- Agriculture > greenhouses, forcing, mulching, ensilage, balewrapping, etc.
- Industry > packaging, top-packaging, protection, dispatching, shrink-wraps, cling-films, techniques, etc.
- Food production > freezer bags, specialized packaging, etc.
- Building > insulation, protection, etc.
- Distribution > large-distribution packs, shop bags, waste sacks, etc.
- Domestic applications > waste sacks, food-covering film ...
The Sigolénois region is home to 80 firms of all sizes and whose activity is focused on extrusion. Their consolidated turnover is estimated to be 3 billion euros involving 3000 direct jobs. Some groups stand out as French or even European leaders with firms like Barbier, Autobar, Granger Freres or Guerin Plastiques.
The expertise of the Sainte-Sigolène extruders is not limited simply to basic polyethylene extrusion. Nowadays they are able to extrude additives conferring oxodegradable properties or biodegradable materials based on vegetable components.
